Up to your Armpits in Water and What Can you Do About It?
DIY plumbing can potentially be, or certainly turn out to be, a nightmare scenario. Everybody thinks they can perform basic plumbing tasks because they see these being accomplished so effortlessly on TV.
This is where the problems start. Water, being one of the basic elements of life can be deceptively tricky and what looks so innocent and so easy can turn out to be unfathomable depths in more ways than one.
The history of do it your self home repairs is littered by the chaos and confusion generated by inexperienced men (and women) who should know better.
Perhaps it is a basic instinct and something that most men feel to be almost an assault on their masculinity but everybody thinks they can be a plumber. After all if Bob the Builder on TV can make it look so easy and then it obviously cannot be very hard and should be something that we can accomplish extremely easily.
Ask many a salesperson at any of the major DIY stores by and large what are the most frequently asked questions and I would wager that the largest percentage of inquiries centre round emergency remedial work for plumbing repairs that have gone wrong.
The other thing to remember is that Water, or too much of it in the wrong place and at the wrong time can actually be extremely damaging. If you do not know what you are doing, the damage caused by blundering around in your ignorance can be irreparable.
The other trouble with plumbing repairs is that hardly a week seems to go by without some newspaper or media organization reporting some horror story or other about shoddy plumbing repairs and cowboy plumbers.
This situation hopefully is being remedied but it still remains that a good plumber is worth his weight (or hers) in gold.
This lost point is worth remembering if only for the fact that a surprising number of plumbers nowadays are women and why not? In these times of equal opportunities something like this is essential.
The problem with this is how most men react when a plumber turns up to repair a problem aggravated by the ignorance at home and the plumber who turns up is a woman.
Perhaps God has a sense of humour after all?
